Con Dao considers as one of the most mysterious islands in South East Asia. It has the most beautiful and untouched beaches in Vietnam. Used to be known as a political prison in the past, nowadays, coming to Con Dao, travelers will also be surprised at the splendid beauty of the island. This is the largest island in the chain of 15 islands as well as islets. It is ringed with lovely beaches, scenic bays, coral reefs, and partially covered in thick forests. There are various activities for tourists to participate in; diving, hiking and exploring some empty coastal roads, deserted beaches, rich natural forests, white sandy beaches, and many historical sites. Cycling Saigon/HCM to Con Dao Islands
Leave the noisy city of Ho Chi Minh for an hour and a half, driving a private vehicle to Ngu Hiep village. Adjust saddle for a complete experience of the landscape, people, and Mekong Delta' cultures. We cross a small branch to Ngu Hiep Island, ride across fertile soil- fruit orchard farmland. Just about 12km reaching the ferry, which we get on for Tan Phong Island. It's very close to Cai Be township, just a ferry crossing in 10 minutes. Enjoy a delicious lunch, local dishes at the local home. This incredible ride gives you so much time to experience water transport in rural villages by the Mekong River. Many small Islands in the Mekong River have primary and middle school only, so high school girls and boys travel on ferries to Cai Be. This is why many small boats with long-tailed engines spend much of their time carrying farm products to Cai Be land market and floating market. We will explore vibrant islands and local lifestyle, family workshops, and other exciting things before getting on our support vehicle for an hour driving to Can Tho.
Do check out and enjoy breakfast for the boat trip to the floating market. The boatman will steer his boat slowly through the floating market so that you see all things in action as it's close up so you could take more photos as you can. It's funny that many tiny sampans sell local breakfast; noodle soup, broken rice with porks, and coffee. Then we disembark the boat for the morning ride onwards to Tan Phu Thanh, Hau Giang. Right here, we get on our support van to Cai Tac township for lunch. If the weather were hot, we take a nap at a coffee shop -on the hammock to wait until it's cooler to start the afternoon adventures to Bat Pagoda.
Have an early breakfast at the hotel and check out for an hour transfer to Tran De dock. Boarding the 8:00 am high-speed boat to Con Dao Island. The speedboat ride takes about two hours and 15 minutes to get there. You will be arrived at the Ben Dam dock around 10:20 am. One of Vietnam’s new destinations with bluewater/sandy beaches and Con Dao is also a wonderful island you escape the bustling cities to relax a couple of days or weeks. . End of service!

Saigon to Soc Trang by bike and to Con Dao Island by boat
We used this tour as a way to get from Ho Chi Minh City to Soc Trang to take the Superdong ferry to the Con Dao islands. It was the low season, so it was just our family of four. The tour was exactly as advertised: we rode almost exclusively on back roads with no cars and trucks, saw the beauty of rural Vietnam, and caught glimpses of what rural life is like. Our guide, Cong, was excellent. He adapted our trip perfectly when one of our kids got sick on the trip and he was happy to let our youngest son set the pace. Cong was endlessly helpful. He even helped us to plan how to get back to Can Tho after our stay on Con Dao, and he was always a wealth of information. The tour is expensive, even by North American standards, but the organization, the level of customization, and the ability to feel confident that you will have a great experience makes it worth the price. 28 - 29 - 30 June 2019
Fabulous ride with Vietnam Backroads
We loved the trip! We appreciated the flexibility of the company and Mr Cong - from buying a new bike for our younger son when he was too small for the regular bikes, to dealing with our older son when he got sick during the trip. The back road trails were so much fun to ride along and we learned a lot about life in the Mekong Delta. Cong was Loc made us feel that everything was taken care of and we didn't need to worry about anything. 28 - 29 - 30 June 2019
The perfect way to see rural Vietnam
I really loved this trip. A perfect way to see rural Vietnam. The trip was very memorable. Dat was an excellent guide.
Some suggestions (Not criticisms) which may help:
- Consider selling helpful equipment, and gloves as an extra cost
- Consider dinners as optional. They were very good but perhaps had some flexibility.
Overall the trip has exceeded my expectations.
