After a hearty breakfast, we set off by bus, leaving behind the city's buzzing streets. The shuttle takes us along the highway for about 90 minutes to Inset Market, where our ride begins. As we pedal, the river winds through verdant fields, traditional stilted houses, and small fishing villages. These encounters make cycling in Cambodia unique—the sense of connection with the people and the land. After lunch in Kampong Thom, visit Wat Nokor, which seamlessly merges ancient and modern spirituality. This 11th-century Mahayana Buddhist shrine is a testament to Cambodia's rich religious heritage. We will then have a shuttle transfer to Kampong Thom in the late afternoon.
The day sounds like a perfect blend of adventure, history, and culture! Starting early on bikes to explore the countryside north of Kampong Thom must have been a serene and invigorating experience. Visiting Sambor Preikuk, the ancient capital of the Chenla period, adds a fascinating historical layer to the journey. These temples, some of the oldest in Cambodia, must have been awe-inspiring, with their intricate carvings and weathered beauty telling stories of centuries past. Ending your cycling day at one of these classic ancient temples before a shuttle drive to Siem Reap. 28km
There's something magical about starting the day with a sunrise at Angkor Wat. As the first light of dawn bathes the ancient temple in hues of gold and pink, it it's impossible not to feel awe-struck by this iconic site's sheer beauty and grandeur.
Once we've explored Angkor Wat, it's time to switch gears! Hoping onto bikes, we pedal our way to Banteay Srei. The journey is part of the experience, as the route takes us through the lush Cambodian countryside dotted with rice paddies, small villages, and scenic landscapes. Banteay Srei, often called the ""Citadel of Women,"" is famous for its exquisite and well-preserved bas-reliefs. The pink sandstone used in its construction gives the temple an almost ethereal quality, and the intricate carvings are a testament to the incredible craftsmanship of its creators.
In the afternoon, a shuttle drives well and takes us south to Ta Prohm, a temple famous for its unique atmosphere. Unlike many other temples in the Angkor complex, Ta Prohm has been left largely as it was found. Towering trees and sprawling roots intertwine with the temple's structures, creating an otherworldly blend of nature and architecture. As we wander through the courtyards and towers, it's easy to feel like an adventurer discovering a hidden gem. We will return to Siem Reap in the afternoon.
We will ride scenic dirt roads from Siem Reap through the beautiful countryside. Your guide will lead you to visit local farms and observe traditional village activities.
