Cycling Routes & paths in Vietnam

Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta, Vietnam, has complicated rural path network systems that are well-developed and maintained by governments. The region comprises 12 provinces: Long An, Dong Thap, Tien Giang, An Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau, along with the Mekong Delta Capital of Can Tho. All country back roads are asphalt, concrete paths connecting villages to villages as it's a rural transport. The rest are dirt tracks, so do not worry about exploring the Mekong Delta by bicycle, even if you are a beginner. Depending on each province's regions, lowlands, jungles, and rural villages, our hand-picked routes are the best for biking trips.

We tailor-make unique bike trips depending on your tour's specific route and terrain. Vietnam Backroads is the first cycle tour operator to explore and build up many adventure trips to Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Rach Gia, Vi Thanh, Cao Lanh, Sadec, and remote villages. Our top cycle tour operator and the pathfinder is Mr Van, nicknamed "Van the man." Each cycling route has to be meticulously well-scouted, investigated, scouted out, and mapped out beforehand by Mr. Van the man. Our guides are licensed and well-trained in bike maintenance and navigation, and they know all routes as they are on their hands. All bike guides can tailor a custom route suitable to your wish and levels of cycling skills.

Our hand-picked routes with a unique tailor-made program will please your ride. Our bicycle tours are on minor roads and rural paths from Ha Noi and begin the ride in Dong Hoi down the coast to Ho Chi Minh. Another way around from Saigon to Ha Noi, and start the ride in Dalat, then down to shore, from the southern coast to the central provinces: Phan Thiet to Phan Rang, Nha Trang, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, Quang Ngai, Hoi An, Hue and Dong Ha, Dong Hoi (DMZ) and Phong Nha where the ride ends or begins depending on the trip's destinations. Throughout the ride, enjoy descending the mountain from Dalat to Nha Trang, enjoy breathtaking views of Khanh Le/ Hon Giao Passes, ride along the stunning coastal routes in Quy Nhon, immerse yourself in seaside villages along the dirt tracks, meet the farmers in the vast agricultural farmlands in Hoi An before looking over the spectacular views of Hai Van Mountain Pass, vast agricultural farmlands in Hoi An, and networks of canals in rivers, and colorful lanterns lining the tiny streets in Hoi An, discover the Hue Purple City, and Quang Tri ancient town all the ways to Phong Nha through DMZ.

Many small country roads are smooth and small, with less traffic, long sandy local beaches, peninsulas, lagoons, mountains along the coast, and small towns; however, some roads are rolling mountains, hills, and stunning bays that the minor roads are the best choice. Depends on the trips you booked and where it travels through mountain climbs throughout the route, rainforest, and jungles far from the coast where the rural infrastructures are underdeveloped, or paths through deeply remote hamlets and closed to traffic. In this case, your guide will only ride in some undeveloped rural villages, and dirt tracks are unsafe, bumpy, very rocky, slippery, and landslide when it rains, and lead you depending on the minor roads.

We ride mostly on small paths along fishing villages, seafood farms, and lush, flat rural farmlands, small villages for support vehicles to accompany the riders. However, the support vehicle will be on minor roads, running parallel and driving as close to riders as possible. The networks of small paths crisscross rural, and this will make it easy for riders to meet the support vehicles at corners and forks on country roads after approximately 15 km, 20 km, or 25 to 30 km on a daily bike ride.

Northern Vietnam

Two-thirds of the country's mainland area includes mountain ranges, tropical forests, remote hillsides, and valleys in northern Vietnam, which has a sparse population. Most small towns, cities in the northwest and far north near the Laos border, and the Chinese are homes to hill tribes. Most rural gravel roads and dirt tracks are the primary means of transport for locals due to peak mountain ranges, slopes, deep valleys, and sparsely populated. Many roads are closed to traffic because of rivers, streams, and high mountains, while the minor and high roads have less traffic. Mountain biking tours in northern Vietnam are on-road and off-road, and there are fewer off-roads in rural Districts where rural roads are unsafe and dangerous.
