Today's morning is to spend more than an hour motorboat learning how to raise catfish at floating village and life of poor people living on their small boats as their home. It's easy and relaxing cycling through Dong Thap lowland after a ferry taking us crossing Basac River. There are regular stops along Basac River. This experience is beyond the fantastic adventure and lifestyle of people in the lowland. A big surprise to you is an impressive architectural monastery on your way cycling to Cao Lanh. Then the ride will continue to explore the beautiful countryside villages in the wetland of Dong Thap. A little ferry will take you to the other side of Mekong Upper River in the late afternoon before a transfer takes to Cao Lanh city.

Sadec is small but attracts many tourists because of a French writer Marguerite Duras, who lived in Sa Dec for three- to four years between 1928 and 1932. Her mother ran a school on the corner of Hung Vuong and Ho Xuan Huong, where a school still exists today (now it is Trung Vuong Primary School). Duras met Huynh Thuy Le, the son of a wealthy Chinese family, and the two became involved in a love affair that became the basis for Duras's 1984 Prix Goncourt-winning novel, The Lover. The house of Huynh Thuy Le, at 255A Nguyen Hue Street, for many years an office for a government agency, has from 2007 been open to the public, with guides offering tours in French, English, and Vietnamese. In the morning, you will have an opportunity to bike through villages of flower, magnificent trees, ornamental flower beds, and fragrant flowers in the garden attract butterflies and bees. Stop for lunch at the house of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le, the central character in Marguerite Duras's autobiographical novel, 'L'Amant'. It considers a highlight Site in the town of Sadec. After lunch, we leave Sadec for Can Tho city. We cycle on paths through scenic countryside, tiny villages with many rice powder mills, and past rice fields.

Can Tho is known as the capital of Mekong Delta’s Vietnam. It attracts many tourists all year round because of Cai Rang floating Market nearby. The shops and stalls at these markets are boats of different sizes. It is open all day, but it is busiest from sunrise to about 9 am. Most of the main items for selling are farm products and specialties of locals and neighboring areas. Every boat has a long upright pole at its bow on which samples of the goods for sale hung on the bamboo sticks on each wooden boat. Before your cycle, you will have a boat ride to the floating market. Then a short transfer you to Binh Minh to start a half-day ride. We explore some islands by bike and by small ferry boats and continue onward cycle to Vinh Long. Your lunch will serve in locally before a transfer to HCM.

Currently, this tour have no schedule, yet.

We are back again in Germany and again very busy in our companies. We enjoyed very much your country and especially the bike-ride in the Mekong Delta. The tour was very interesting and we saw a lot. Mr. Trung was a very good guide and we could ask him everything. He has knowledge about almost everything, so we could ask a lot. Everything worked good, the paths we were riding were fascinating and the distances were not too hard. So we can recommend Vietnam Backroads. Especially the Ba Duc homestay, which Mr. Trung recommended, was very nice. Please say thank you to him. April, 2014

This was the highlight of our trip to Vietnam. In our case, we “Saved the best for last" with a 3 day, 2 night tour of the Mekong.

Our guide Hoang was amazing. He "read" how we were doing and adapted to our abilities. We felt like little children pedaling for fun while we followed him. We were mostly off road on paved motorbike trails. We saw beautiful fields, busy markets, lots of canals, and met many people along the way. Hoang’s language skills were excellent - which enhanced everything; Food in the restaurants, agricultural terms, and more.

As a tour operator, Vietnam Cycling tours was as professional as can be. Everything on the itinerary was as we expected; Timing, hotels, meals. The bicycles were excellent. The gearing and fit were good. The shock absorber was nice on the occasional bumps. Most important - they were easy to ride. Minimal strain to get going and keep going. Gears dropped down well for the bridges. Cruised nicely on the flat stretches. While we were tired at the end of the day, there was no problem completing the 50-65 km per day.

Some of the most special aspects of our trip were the local people. Hoang struck up conversations and people showed us their handicrafts and industry. We met people weaving water hyacinths for export, a family growing bean sprouts, and a man harvesting leftover rice for his chickens. We were even invited to a wedding that we cycled by!

On a scale of 1 to 10, we would rate this trip a 12! and if it is even possible, Hoang's contribution would be even higher We very much appreciate the service and detail provided by Vietnam Cycling tours that made sure this was a trip we will always remember.

When we return to Viet Nam we would love to bike with Hoang and Vietnam Cycling Tours again! 03 - 04 - 05 Mar 2023
