After breakfast, we begin our ride directly from the hotel, pedaling through town and following a short riverside path. Within a few kilometers, we leave the town behind and cycle past a series of small villages nestled along the waterways. The peaceful scenery along the river sets a tranquil tone for the day. We soon cross the river and join National Road 12 — our main route to Dien Bien Phu.
Today’s journey takes us through a landscape rich in natural beauty and cultural diversity. We ride along winding roads through green grassy hills, terraced rice paddies, and lush rural farmland. One of the day’s highlights is the challenge of climbing Ma Phi Ho Pass, also known as Heaven’s Gate. The road undulates through mountain jungles before we stop for lunch in the quiet town of Muong Cha.
At Muong Cha market, you'll find a vibrant mix of ethnic cultures. Local tribes gather to sell bamboo baskets, colorful traditional garments, fresh fruits, vegetables, and a variety of handmade household items.
After lunch, we continue our journey toward Dien Bien Phu, cycling along a gentle river. The road meanders through tiny villages, expansive rice fields, and fruit orchards set against hillside backdrops. The smooth roads and mostly downhill terrain make for an enjoyable ride, allowing time to admire traditional stilt houses and vast scenic valleys lining the riverbanks.
