Our day begins with an invigorating ride out of town, tracing the winding path of the Stung Sen River. This picturesque river leads us deep into the heart of the jungle, unveiling the historic Sambor Prei Kuk temple, a masterpiece from the 7th century. Built at the peak of the pre-Angkorian Chenla Kingdom, Sambor Prei Kuk offers a fascinating glimpse into Cambodia's architectural and spiritual heritage, showcasing intricately carved sandstone towers surrounded by dense forest.
After exploring the ancient temple, we continue our ride through the verdant landscape, stopping to enjoy a local Cambodian lunch. The simplicity and freshness of the meal provide a refreshing pause, fueling us for the next leg of our journey. En route, we visit the millennium-old Kampong Kdei Bridge—an awe-inspiring feat of ancient engineering. With its elegant arches, this stone bridge has withstood the test of time, carrying cars and trucks until just a decade ago. It also holds somber stories of refuge, having served as a sanctuary for locals during the tumultuous years of the Cambodian civil war.
The rest of the day is a scenic 2.5-hour transfer to Siem Reap, a vibrant city steeped in history and culture. Upon arrival, we celebrate the culmination of the day's adventures with a delectable dinner at one of the city’s renowned restaurants.
