Enjoy breakfast and watch the lively local activities in the Ba Sac River from the Victoria Hotel. Just a 5-minute walk from the hotel to the pier—Basa fish statue—we'll take a sampan trip on the Basac River, explore the life of villagers who live on the floating village and floating fish farms, and resume cruising to Cham village, where we will experience the daily lives of Muslim people. Enjoy walking around the village, and visit temples and mosques. Muslim minorities have migrated to the Mekong Delta from Malaysia over the centuries. They live mainly in agriculture, weaving traditional clothes, and fishing. This is an opportunity for us to experience how the Cham people earn a living, how to make sarong clothes and learn about their culture.
The floating village and fish farms are built on two boat hulls, many built on emptied plastic barrels. Underneath, a 2-metre-deep wood and wire cage covers the entire bottom of the houseboat. Each cage is estimated to house some 300,000 fish. We'll return to Chau Doc town for lunch and then back to the hotel to rest.
At 2:30 p.m., we will take the shuttle to Tra Su Forest and take a boat ride to explore the wildlife and the forest. It's the right time to see numerous kinds of birds fly home. These wetlands attract many birds, including storks, egrets, cormorants, peafowl, and water cocks. Afterward, we hop on our bikes and venture through this forest, cross over some canals, pass gorgeous lotus paddies and farm shelters, and enjoy views of gorgeous rice paddies and the stunning scenery of Sam Mountain. The ride will end up cycling at the colorful Huynh Dao pagoda and returning to the hotel to enjoy the sunset by the pool.
