Be met at 8:00 am, and we travel on the road by vehicle to Ben Luc, rural Dist, Long An province. Arrives at 9:00 am, start the adventure cycling on quiet back roads, travel through the rustic countryside of Mekong Delta provinces; Long An and My Tho. The rural areas are covered with green rice paddy fields and country farms along hamlets. Ride past fields of watermelon, dragons and lush green vegetation. Enjoy watching the daily activities of the locals,  visit colorful Buddhist temples and small markets along the way to My Tho.

We break for lunch in the town, and we visit Vinh Trang Pagoda in town before we rest on vehicle transfer for 1 hour to Cai Be township, we then take a boat trip along the scenic waterways. Visit some workshops, board a sampan, and paddle a beautiful creek through Tan Phong Island before boarding a motorboat cross the large Mekong River to Dong Phu. It's a manufactured canal to make a short route through the island; it is very busy with smaller and larger boats moving from two directions. Welcome by your host and check in at the homestay.

Taste tea coffee and enjoy breakfast as enjoy watching small ferries crossing Mekong River from Tan Phong island with full locals, especially high school girls in long white dresses, going to school because there is no high school on the island. Following breakfast, we check out and be ready for a fantastic day. We ride along the river to Cai Be town, pedal up the bridge, stop to gaze down the tiny Cai Be floating market and look over the beautiful Cathedral Church facing the river. Great time for endless photos, then we take a published ferry to Tan Phong island.

The island is a lovely island with a small market that is busy in the early morning only. The primary families income is from fruit orchards and small friendly homestay. We explore the island on small paths, some narrow bridges, pass some beautiful hamlets, pass kindergarten and primary school, and escape the island by ferry to Phu Phung village. Continue the ride on dirt tracks along the waterways, rustic villages to Binh Hoa Phuoc, then follow the back roads along the river to Cai Cuong ancient house. The house used to belong to the wealthiest landlord on the island before 1975. We stop to visit the place, watch, and listens to the Mekong traditional folk songs. It's one of the cultural heritage folk songs from the central and south of Vietnam. Taste Vietnamese coffee, fresh fruits.

Afterwards, we carry on the ride, markets, vibrant villages. Explore the An Binh island, cross water channels, and the busiest Dong Phu canals. We continue biking through the island to An Binh ferry and enjoy another ferry to Vinh Long town. We enjoy delicious lunch at the restaurant by the Mekong River in town. After lunch, spend time walking on your own to the biggest fruit market in the city before a 30-minutes transfer to Tan Phu village, Tam Binh Dist, for the afternoon ride. We cycle deeply into Khmer villages, stop at one of the most beautiful Khmer temples and the home of locals, experience the life of Khmer people. The roads are small concrete paths, some along the small rivers and vast rural farms and rice fields. Continue the ride, admire the iconic landscapes of Khmer communities until reaching Binh Minh's outskirts, and have a vehicle transfer to Can Tho city.

On the last morning of the tour, we’ll take a motorised boat to check out the lively floating market. Cai Rang is the real floating market full of wholesales and retail boats. You could see literally hundreds of big and small boats every morning to buy and sell just about anything you can imagine – freshly harvested fruit and vegetables, rice, and even noodle soup, broken rice, and coffee are also for sale aboard a tiny boat or another! Primarily, you can see many grocery boats and floating houses around you.  Then we explore some of the hidden secrets of the Phong Dien countryside and have lunch before we return to Ho Chi Minh by vehicle.

nights We really enjoyed our tour especially the combination of small trails + small roads. Thang introduced us to a lot of different foods which was great. He was a fantastic guide, explaining the sights, local customs and culture and anything we wanted to know. The bikes are much better than on a tour with a different company. Overall, Great experience. 1 - 2 - -3 Jan 2015

This was indeed a very unique experience I always felt safe and Dat looked after us very well. Thanks to Dat, I learned a lot about culture, politics, food, way of life in Vietnam. Thank again for taking us on back roads to see, experience the real Vietnam. 18 Oct, 2014

We loved our trip. The tour ended up being just my husband and me with a guide - Viet- and driver. The riding was scenic and included lots of short ferry trips. Overall the riding was very enjoyable. There were a few places where the pathway was too narrow for us to ride comfortably, and Viet was good about rerouting where necessary to make the ride as pleasant as possible. Our first night at Ut Trinh homestay was wonderful--great food, and our private bathroom was outdoors, which we loved. Also we got to help cook, which was really fun. On the road, children often ran alongside us shouting hello, which we also loved. I highly recommend this trip. 24 - 25 - 26 Jan 2019

Met my expectations very well. A great guide - Loc Ly and good quality bikes. He knew what we could do and took us on very interesting tracks and showed us charming villages. We were looked after very well on the whole trip. We loved this and pleased with Vietnam Backroads. We would definitely recommend this company to our friends. 21 - 22 - 23 April 2019

We had a wonderful trip. Mr Dung was an excellent tour guide who was very informative, knowledgeable, organised and also kind and funny. He really made the tour a stand - out experience for us and it is a highlight of our 4 week holiday to Cambodia + Vietnam.
Mr Lok is a very good driver and got us from Saigon to Can Tho and back with no problems. He was always on time with many cold bottles of water ready.
We loved the homestay on An Binh + all the food stops combination with Kieu before the trip was great.
One comment would be and it would be wonderful if you could make payment by Paypal or Stripe for the tour. 27 - 28 - 29 December 2019

We did a 3 day 2 night tour of the Mekong. It ended up just being myself and my wife for the tour but our guide Dung was wonderful and it felt like we had another friend with us on the tour. The cycle tour itself was just perfect - about 20-30km per day of easy cycling on flat ground through lovely scenery. You can tailor this as required depending on fitness levels. It was a great way to see the more rural way of life in Vietnam. The home stay was excellent and included a cooking class which was good fun! Dung brought us for lunch and dinner every day and the food was wonderful! Our driver Mr. Loc was excellent also and navigated without an issue.

Thanks for a great tour! 27 - 28 - 29 December 2019

We did the 3-day Mekong delta cycling tour with our family (2 adults, 2 boys of 11 and 12 years old). Our guide was Dat. We had a super trip. Cycling was great, bikes excellent and Dat was the best guide we had in Vietnam. I highly recommend the 3-day cycling trip in the Mekong Delta by Vietnam Backroads/Vietnam cycling tours!! 26-27-28 July 2022

We had a fantastic tour. We use an expression - "save the best for last". Our bike tour was at the end of our visit to Viet Nam. It was truly the highlight!

As for the "mechanics" of the trip:

1. Everything on the itinerary was as we expected; Timing, hotels, meals.

2. The bicycles were excellent. The gearing and fit were good. The shock absorber was nice on the occasional bumps. Most important - they were easy to ride. Minimal strain to get going and keep going. Gears dropped down well for the bridges. Cruised nicely on the flat stretches.

3. Hoang was amazing. He "read" how we were doing and adapted to our abilities. We felt like little children pedaling for fun while we followed him.

He was very good at showing us the various temples along the way and explaining the differences.

His English was very very good - which enhanced everything; Food in the restaurants, agricultural terms, and more.

Some of the most special aspects of our trip were the local people. Hoang struck up conversations and people showed us their handicrafts and industry. So we met people weaving water hyacinths for export, a family growing bean sprouts, and a man harvesting leftover rice for his chickens. We were even invited to a wedding that we cycled by!

Another favorite memory was pulling into the temple complex before we got to Can Tho. (Near Dong Binh). I have attached a photo that shows how beautiful this appeared from my bike.

On a scale of 1 to 10, we would rate this trip a 12! and if it is even possible, Hoang's contribution would be even higher! Let us provide an example:

On the 2nd day as we pulled into the Victoria Hotel and Hoang said he would get us for dinner at 7:30PM we said 'we were too full to eat an entire meal; what about a simple Banh Mi?' He was a bit surprised by our request, but said he knew the best Banh Mi in town ..... and later on brought it to us at our hotel. It was delicious and we were very appreciative of his caring and professionalism.

The driver Hi? was very nice and professional. Seemed to work well with Hoang.

We will post a version of the above on TripAdvisor.

We would also like to give Feedback only to you about the hotels and restaurants.

The first lunch at the Mekong Rest Area was very good. Enjoyed it.

Mekong River Boutique resort had a lovely pool. Dinner was excellent. The staff helpful. The manager went out of his way to welcome us

On the negative side - the beds were uncomfortable and there was insufficient hot water for our shower. We will tell this to you, but never post this publicly. We understand that there are limited lodging choices in small towns.

The Victoria was wonderful. Great pools, perfect rooms, good breakfast. Cannot complain. The boat trip to the floating market in the morning was easy. We appreciated that the boat driver took us right to a dock at the market for our last drive.

We very much appreciate the service and detail you provided us to make sure this was a trip we will always remember.

When we return to Viet Nam we would love to bike with Hoang and you again!
