Cycling Dalat - Central highlands - Ho Chi Minh Trails - Hoi An

Hi Lam,

We had a wonderful trip. Vien, especially, really went out of his way to show us the local food, and we felt very taken care of in terms of cycling with him as our guide. Our driver was lovely too!

Our general feeling was that each day was somehow better than the last. Highlights were eating crickets, swimming, and the scenery on the last two days. We have no complaints so I’m not sure what I could suggest for improvements.

Thanks again!

Dear Phuong Tam
Thank you so much for your kind Christmas wishes. From all of us old lady cyclists, can I return the same to you! We had such a wonderful time travelling through Vietnam with Viên as our guide. He taught us a lot and showed us much we would not have seen ourselves. Of course we got to eat the best food too, most of all we had a huge amount of fun. Viên is a lovely man and we have much respect for the ideals and principles of your company. We would recommend you to anyone wishing to travel in Vietnam. 09 - 17 November 2024

Xin chao Lam, I’m Maurice’s wife and wanted to give you some feedback.

Simply put: It was magnificent!

Let’s start with the Vietnam portion.

Hoang and Hung were superb guides and people. Hoang, as the lead guide, was especially excellent, but both were great. They were very knowledgeable, friendly, warm, cheerful, flexible, helpful, fun, interesting to talk to and interested in us. If we mentioned something that we were curious about they’d follow up whenever that was possible, for example, getting us jackfruit and banana flower to eat. As bike guides they were flawless — everything always went so smoothly and their navigation was great. We always felt safe with them, even if there was traffic … or a broken-down bridge they helped us get ourselves and our bikes over! Hoang’s English was advanced and very easy to understand. Hung’s was very good too, and he was very funny, and we told him we knew he’d make a great lead guide. Their personalities were just a joy. at.

The cultural stops were so interesting, and Hoang never grew tired of our questions, and usually could tell us more about everything we experienced. He did all the necessary translating at the cultural stops.

The drivers were both so friendly and helpful and warm, even though they spoke very little English. They fed us snacks, gave us hand wipes, filled our water bottles before we’d even asked — they spoiled us, all with good humor.

We felt very supported by the whole team.

The Cambodia portion was good, but not as wonderful.

Poleak and Kong were both very pleasant and sweet and always willing to help us. Poleak’s navigation was great on many complicated routes.

But language was a bit of a weak point. While Poleak has an extensive English vocabulary, we often had to ask him to repeat himself because we didn’t understand what he’d said, due to his accent or his phrasing. And Kong spoke so little English that when we were near him, we gave up asking him to explain anything we saw and asked about — he couldn’t understand us. He seemed to be there mainly to be the “sweep,” the person in back who makes sure nobody gets lost. Poleak was very good at improvising stops when there was something interesting, like when we went by a group that was using a machine to separate the rice from the chaff, and he stopped and talked to them and explained the process to us (and some of us helped a bit with bagging the rice.)

The drivers were very pleasant and helpful.

We did have a couple of minor logistical glitches (the wrong hotel … ) but Poleak did a good job setting things right, without getting stressed out.

As for other feedback:

I had trouble with my bike in Cambodia. The first day, I thought there was drag, and after awhile, asked for it to be checked. The brakes were scraping and slowing me down. They fixed it. But the day we went up the mountain to the Bokor National Park — the long, steep ride — I was struggling a lot. I kept thinking that since they’d fixed the bike, it must’ve been just me. But finally, after finishing up and down the major hill, way behind everyone, I said I really need the bike checked again — I felt like I as going uphill even when I was on a flat road. So yes, the brakes were dragging me down again! It was a very hard day.

Something more general: All of us in our group don’t normally stay in such fancy hotels and huge meals, and really don’t need or want that level of luxury. We would’ve preferred more modest hotels and meals … and lower prices.

Also, while the drivers were a nice part of the team, there could be cost-cutting for the customer there too. Maurice and I did a couple of guided bike trips in Spain and Croatia, and they had one guide, one driver. The van had racks on top to handle the bikes for transport, and a spare bike or two, and room for our luggage.

I don’t know if this could be any different on this particular trip, but it was a bit frustrating to have to spend so much time in the van on some days. It didn’t leave us any time in the later afternoons to explore the places we were in. Bike, van, shower, dinner, sleep … Next day bike, van, shower, dinner, sleep …

Overall:

The routes VNCT planned, and locations and the special stops, were really good, the staff was helpful and pleasant and ranging from good to excellent. The crew helped with our luggage all the time even though we’re all used to handling our own. We always felt they had our needs at the top of their list, and were always so good-natured about it. Meals were great: varied and actually too plentiful — we never could finish everything. The descriptions of the itinerary were very good. The bikes were very good aside from my problem, the helmets in Vietnam very good but mine in Cambodia didn’t fit me quite as well, the straps were quite dirty and we had no visors.

We are already highly recommending our trip with you!

Let us know if you’d like us to do reviews on some travel platform.

Thank you and the team!

Hello Lam Kieu,

Yes, we’re back home after 4 wonderful weeks in Vietnam/Cambodia. And your cycling trip was a big part of it.

Just about everything about the cycling trip was wonderful. The guides were excellent (especially the ones in Vietnam - but your Cambodian guides were also very good), and we especially appreciated the opportunities they gave us as we cycled to meet local people and learn about their culture. The guides and your drivers did a wonderful job at making sure we had water and at keeping us fueled with snacks. All of the hotels were first rate. Meals were generally very good (there was one restaurant in Cambodia that seemed to have a very limited menu and we asked Poleak if he could find another - which he did), and there was always plenty to eat.

A few suggestions:

1) The one issue that I was not happy about was the quantity and length of some of the van transfers (as much as 3 hours a day). I have done other cycling trips (Spain, Croatia), where we did not have such long transfers. As a result, we would finish cycling earlier in the day (around 3 pm), and have time to relax, nap, or explore the city we were in for a few hours. With the long transfers on this trip we didn’t have that opportunity. I realize that you are limited by where you can find suitable hotels, etc., but if the quantity/length of transfers were reduced it would improve the overall experience.
2) We visited 2 floating villages on this trip, one in Vietnam and one in Cambodia. The one in Cambodia was far superior and far more authentic, whereas the one in Vietnam seems to exist only for tourists. I would consider eliminating the Vietnam floating village from the itinerary.

Overall, the cycling trip was excellent, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend your company to any friends planning a trip to Vietnam!

Weather did not co-operate. The people of Vietnam are lovely and kind, gentle and warm. The countryside is beautiful. Our guide Mr. Vien was very attentive to our needs. We learned so much from him about Vietnam and its people. Such a great experience. Every hotel was very accommodating with amazingly attentive staffs. Other than the weather the trip was perfect. 08 - 15 December 2024

Saigon to Phu Quoc Islands by Bike & Boat

Hi!
We just completed our tour and I wanted to provide some feedback. First, we had an amazing time. Danny was a terrific guide and took excellent care of us. He was so knowledgeable about everything! He also adjusted the trip to fit our daughter’s ability. Our driver was also wonderful. He took such good care of us at every stop.

I did want to note that the hotel in Can Tho was terrible. It was dirty and the breakfast was horrible. I’ve stayed in many simpler hotels that were clean & efficient. This place clearly was a nice hotel at some point but was tired and dirty. I think I would have preferred a nicer spot or even a comfortable home stay.

The coco riverside was a treat! I would recommend it to anyone!

Thank you for arranging everything. 03 November - 03 December 2024

Beautiful trip. Our guide Phuc was very knowledgeable, calm and kind. Every section of the trip was distinct from the other sections. We cycled along little roads by canals seeing weddings, factories, shops, restaurants and homes. We stopped at interesting places along the way and met the locals at work. Tiny little back roads we couldn’t have found ourselves. 10 - 14 July 2024

Vietnam Bike Tour - Hanoi to Saigon 10 days/ 9 nights

Hi Phuong,

Sorry for the delay in coming back to you, Van and Dat. Could you please provide this to Van and Dat as well.

Thank you Vietnam Cycling Tours for a great Vietnam experience. We can’t speak more highly of the trip and the whole experience. Having had the opportunity to undertake a cycling trip with my sons (10 years ago), I was a little concerned as to whether it would be as good as last time as we were travelling with close friends. The trip actually exceeded my expectations. It was brilliant.

The off road sites were fantastic, accommodation was great and the amount of information that Dat was able to share with us was so informative. We would highly recommend the experience. Thank you once again Phuong and Van for your efforts in undertaking the organising of the trip and being so understanding and patient in this process.

Biking adventure Saigon - Nha Trang

Just finished an amazing adventure with Vietnam Cycling Tours. Couldn’t recommend them enough for their organisation from beginning to end. We went on a 4 day tour from Saigon to Nha Trang via Dalat Our guide, Vien, was so warm and friendly and, even though the roads in Vietnam can be a bit frightening, Vien always made us feel safe. Will definitely do another tour with them! 20-23 December 2023

Cycling Hue -DMZ - Khe Sanh- A Luoi 4 days

We have come back from the most amazing four days with Mr Ky and Mr Vu! We did the DMZ tour, visiting many historical sites and learning a lot about the history of Vietnam through the years. The cycling each day was incredible, lots of variety (some days we rode flat rides where we could admire the scenery and see the country life in Quang Tri and the Hue suburbs, one day the riding was intense as we rode the Ho Chi Minh trail but the views along the way were certainly worth the effort!). It was a pleasure to be on the tour with Ky and Vu - the planning each day was meticulous and lots of thought from them both went into making sure we got the most out of each day. We had a great time riding, trekking and touring museums with Mr Ky, and at every stop Mr Vu was ready and waiting with snacks, cold drinks, towels and everything that we needed. We also enjoyed the local food and Mr Ky helped us to try some foods we wouldn't have known to order but were amazing! We cannot recommend doing this tour enough (and many other tours are available with this company if the DMZ itinerary doesn't suit) and if either or both of Ky and Vu are your guide or driver for your trip I can assure you you will be in very safe hands and well looked after! We will look to do more tours with VCT when we next return to Vietnam! 11 - 14 December 2023

Hi Ms Tam

Well we have just had the best few days with Mr Ky and Mr Vu! They looked after us superbly for the whole time, always making sure our bikes were working, we had food, water, cold snacks and towels after the rides and also gave us an amazing overview of the areas we were travelling in and the history both recent and more ancient in the areas we were in. We also ate some fantastic new foods with them and could not have had a better time or a better pair of people looking after us!

The scenery we saw when riding was incredible and we cannot recommend this tour enough. Please let me know if you have any preferred sites where we can leave a review of the company, tour we completed and also of how wonderful Mr Ky and Mr Vu are to spend time with! 11-14 December 2023

1. Bike seats for women! I got very sore riding with a regular bike seat. (I didn't tell Poleak because I didn't know we could do anything about it.) Once I got a different kind of seat (in Vietnam), I was WAY more comfortable. I guess women need a different kind. Maybe you could make some women's seats available. I'm attaching a picture of the comfortable seat.

2. Most of the hotels were great, especially the eco-lodges and the colorful one in Phnom Penh. The only hotel that wasn't great was the River Hotel. Just thought I'd let you know. People were nice but the hotel was a little run down and the street noise in the morning.

3. 12 days is a lot of days to ride, unpack, pack and ride again. Maybe you want to offer a "down day” in the middle of the trip where the clients stay in same place for two nights in a row. People can have the option to ride that day leaving and returning to the same place, or not ride. Just an idea! 05 - 16 November 2023

Cycling 4D/3N Mai Chau - Pu Luong - Cuc Phuong - Tam Coc

Long was a very good guide, I enjoyed his company.

The bikes were good quality too and well maintained.

Considering the tour is on the expensive end, I did question the accommodation decisions a bit.
I personally enjoyed the more basic home stays (despite it making my evening of work quite difficult 😅), but others in the group did not.
Perhaps you should ask the client what their preference is beforehand?

Also, I think the boat trip at Tam Coc was unecessary too. I have already done it before & would have preferred more cycling.
But I'm sure this is a nice addition for those who have never visited Vietnam before, so it's hard to stay what is best.

Overall a very good experience =). 14 - 17/11/2023
