Departing from PanHou Village, we set out along serene, meandering backroads that follow a winding river and wind through lush, jungle-clad mountains. The ride unfolds at a leisurely pace, offering ample opportunity to connect with warm, welcoming locals, observe ethnic communities tending their buffalo across vibrant farmlands, and witness daily life unfolding on narrow, terraced rice fields that hug peaceful riversides.
The journey is as rewarding as it is picturesque, blending gentle stretches with occasional, invigorating climbs that reveal sweeping highland vistas. Our route gradually leads us to the sealed DT177 road, where the ascent toward the iconic Heaven Gate Pass begins—an unforgettable climb that feels as though you are cycling above the clouds, surrounded by dramatic and awe-inspiring panoramas.
Hoang Su Phi is celebrated for its untouched natural splendor and enduring cultural traditions. This remote corner of Vietnam remains largely unchanged, where ethnic communities continue to cultivate rice using time-honored techniques passed down through generations.
After cresting the pass, we continue across rolling hills and along undulating roads that weave through secluded villages. The terrain gently descends as we ride toward the main highway junction, where we turn left and continue toward Ha Giang. In the late afternoon, a support vehicle awaits to transfer us back to town, bringing a memorable day of riding to a close.
