Vung Tau- Can Gio- Vam Sat- Saigon
25 km
Following an early breakfast, we leave the seaside city of Vung Tau behind and board a high-speed ferry across Ganh Rai Bay to Can Gio. As we cruise across the water, enjoy panoramic views of Vung Tau’s coastline gradually fading into the distance.
Upon arrival in Can Gio, a short shuttle transfer takes us to Monkey Island, where we stroll beneath the forest canopy and encounter the island’s famously playful macaques in their natural surroundings. We also visit the Rung Sat Museum to gain insight into the fascinating history and ecology of this remarkable mangrove region.
From here, we continue by shuttle to Dan Xay Bridge, where a private boat awaits. With our bicycles safely on board, we cruise deep into the Can Gio Mangrove Forest, often described as the “green lung” of Ho Chi Minh City. This peaceful boat journey reveals a completely different side of southern Vietnam, with narrow waterways winding between dense mangroves, water palms lining the riverbanks, and vast wetlands stretching into the distance. Our boat journey brings us to Vam Sat Ecotourism Area, where we stop for a well-earned lunch surrounded by the tranquility of the mangrove forest.
In the afternoon, it is time to get back in the saddle. We cycle along quiet rural roads and riverside trails, discovering the authentic countryside of Can Gio along the way. The route takes us through peaceful villages, past local fish farms and shimmering salt fields, offering glimpses into the traditional livelihoods of communities shaped by the surrounding rivers, wetlands, and sea. As we pedal toward the Saigon River, the landscape gradually changes from remote countryside to the outskirts of the city. Our cycling adventure concludes when we reach the main road, where we board our support vehicle for the final transfer to Ho Chi Minh City.
It is a wonderfully varied day combining ferry crossings, mangrove exploration, local culture, river scenery, and rewarding cycling—an unforgettable transition from Vietnam’s coast and wetlands to the energy of Ho Chi Minh City.
