Full Itinerary

Commence your trip with 1. hour travel on the road to Mekong Delta. On arrive at a rural village, just a few km from Tan An city, pick the bike for the morong ride. We cycle into family farms, enjoy the most beautiful scenic countryside, ride on varied terrains, concrete, dirt lance through lush vegetation, and discover the authentic local life along the hamlets. Visit some families and see villagers make handbags, hats and other things. All are make of local materials.

Break for lunch at a the locally owned restaurants in My Tho city. Then relax on support vehicle transfer 1 hour to the rural Dist of Ben Tre for the afternoon ride. The rural Districts offer peaceful landscapes, amazing smooth paths, and dirt paths through waterpalm and vibrant villages. You will wander through hamlets, across the water channels by small ferry boats, and ride on several narrow bridges without rails. As the sun rises, the farmers here begin their day, creating a serene morning atmosphere that's perfect for observing the local daily activities around villages. The peaceful sight of fruits being transported to local markets by mopeds or sampan boats, the gentle sound of watering the vegetables and fruits on their farmlands, and the older generation's trips to the nearby markets all contribute to a tranquil start to the day. This sense of calm is further enhanced as everyone returns to the homestay for a riverside breakfast, adding a touch of community to the peaceful morning.

We'll transfer 45 minutes to Tra Vinh for the morning ride. Pick up our bikes and explore Khmer villages, stop to meet locals working on lush farmlands, and learn how to make rice crops. Wave locals working on rice paddy fields, take it easy as you cycle on opened air paths across rice paddy fields and make many stops at local home business workshops. Experience the lifestyles and daily activities of Khmer and Vietnamese on the riverside trails, which make it possible to enjoy the greenery and fresh air through villages. Venture into Khmer hamlets, learn about Theravada Buddhism, visit the beautiful Pagodas, and encounter the stunning landscapes and vibrant countryside.

Break for lunch in a little town, then a shuttle transfer an hour to Tra On for the afternoon ride. We take a public ferry, cross the river to Luc Si Island, then continue cycling across the islands, taste seasonal fruit at local orchards, and take another ferry to the mainland, where we ride on trails alongside the Mekong River and the Can Tho suspension bridge. We hop on the van for a short transfer to Can Tho City.

Can Tho, the vibrant capital of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, is renowned for the unique Cai Rang Floating Market—an unforgettable and one-of-a-kind experience. After breakfast, take a motorized boat to the bustling market and witness the lively morning life along the river. Large boats remain anchored as wholesale traders, while smaller boats weave through the waterways selling and exchanging goods. Tiny sampans offer local breakfasts such as noodle soup, rice dishes, and freshly brewed coffee. Although the market operates throughout the day, it is at its busiest from sunrise until 9 a.m., with goods displayed on tall bamboo poles as advertisements.

Today’s cycling journey follows scenic countryside paths through vibrant villages, winding rivers, and peaceful creeks in Phong Dien. Ride along shaded rural trails, lush orchards, and tranquil canals toward Thoi Lai, then continue cycling to Co Do, enjoying lunch en route. After lunch, rest your legs on a comfortable drive to Chau Doc. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel and enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool while admiring the fantastic views of the Mekong Delta

Enjoy the sunrise, taste tea and coffee, and look over the endless rice paddies and Cambodian borderline from Sam Mountain. After a hearty breakfast, you will transfer to Chau Doc town, and it takes about 15 minutes to drive. Embark on samapan boat to a floating village, experience the local life whose tiny houses are on the river, and see how wealthy people raise catfish. The floating fish farms were built with a good quality waterproof and durable materials, such as big houses while floating homes are tiny on top of sampans.

After the boat, you cycle through the Muslim villages, past Muslim wooden stilt houses, stop at a busy village market, follow the small path to the verdant farmland, and have a ferry crossing the Bassac River. Break for a coffee stop at a lively market and continue to explore a lowland in Dong Thap. The areas flooded yearly during the wet season. Houses on stilts had been used in this land for a long time. Most are not solid stilt houses because locals built with local materials; proof usually changes after 2 to 3 years.

We will have lunch in Cho Moi, following lunch with 30 30-minute transfer to My Luong township to continue your adventure to Cao Lanh. The weather is much more relaxed, and your leisurely ride is more enjoyable. Take some photos of the Monastery complex before the ride takes you through peaceful, seemingly undiscovered Gieng island and its rustic villages. Take today's last ferry to a rural town and cycle to Cao Lanh.

You ride narrow lances from the hotel to get out of the town, past many brick factories along rivers, cross water channels on the little wooden bridges, and ride on a dirt track along the Mekong River. Stop by a small workshop that weaves dried water hyacinths to make hats, handbags, bins, indoor sandals, etc. You can buy some directly from the locals instead of paying high prices in Ho Chi Minh.

A half-day allows us to marvel at the lush green vegetation fields and pass by a mudfish farm and a mango orchard as we bike through. Take a break for a refreshing coffee in a small town, then continue your journey on country back roads. Traverse through the town on concrete paths across farmlands and agricultural canals until you reach the serene Xeo Quyt forest. Enjoy a delightful lunch at a charming forest restaurant. After lunch, explore the Viet Cong base and the Xeo Quyt forest.

The forest is a vast swamp and full of tall cajeput trees. The tree has a white spongy bark that easily flakes off the trunk, and locals love to use these for fires. Viet Cong built its base inside the forest in 1960 with bunkers, meeting rooms, command headquarters, etc. Xeo Quyt is an ecological site that offers a rowed sampan to visit historical relics, admire the scenery, and learn about the harsh life in the Vietnam War. Enjoy a sampan boat row by Viet Cong, stop at some Viet Cong bunkers, walk to communist leaders, and learn about the Vietnam War and the wildlife of the forest. Finally, you will transfer to Saigon in the late afternoon. Tour Ends!

Very good routes, good mix of urban/village area, poor/rich and farming villages.Good activities (crocodile, fish farms, boat rides, markets and floating market) The food on the set menu by the restaurants was very good (restaurant where guide chose menu, less good. Prefer if he translate Vietnamese into English menu, then we choose(even if this means price increase) Bike excellent packing up of tour very good, professional services eg. Baggage handling. I have the backroads. Wom, much better than I expected. Best tour ever- Dat is excellent and we were looked after perfectly. Dat is a fantastic guide. He is friendly and knowledgeable. Driver is safe. The route taken is good with a variety of scenery. The bikes are good quality and easy to ride. This was an amazing…!

This was an amazing experience. The booking process was great with Van replying promptly to all emails. This company is very professionally run. Our tour guide Viet was very knowledgeable and showed us some amazing places that we were not aware of. This was not just a cycling tour but also a wonderful insight into the lives of the Vietnamese people. The amount of cycling each day is optional so if you are tired you can rest in the air conditioned van. I would recommend the upgrade accommodation as some of the hotels exceeded our expectation. Loc our driver ensured we had plenty of water and always greeted us with a smile. The food was plentiful and loved eating with local families. The village people were so friendly and greeted us everywhere with hello hello My husband and I are fit 60 year olds and would recommend this tour company. Best Mekong Delta Cycling Tour

We loved our cycling tour with Dat! Traveling through the small village on charming roads with a kind, knowledgeable guide was a dream. Dat pointed out and kinds of local foods. He was very open and willing to answer all our questions. The ride distance each day was defect, made even better by the fruits / rest stops. Our only suggestion would be to make dinner at the hotels optional. Often those meals were stuffy and not delicious. We really love eating fantastic Vietnamese food with Dat. What a trip! We are simultaneously tired and energized. We had an amazing time. It was so relaxing to know everything was thought out and organized for us. Mr. Dat had an amazing talent for understanding us- when we should have a cold drink, what special treats we should try, when we should rest, what we liked to photograph, when it was time for a bathroom break, what information we’d be interested in, etc.. -he anticipated all our needs! We really appreciated him sharing his expertise and knowledge about Vietnamese culture and history, and we thoroughly enjoyed spending time with him. Mr. Dat and Mr. Viet worked together seamlessly. We were met promptly at every pick-up point with cold water, face wipes, and a smooth ride to our next well-planned destination. The bicycles were great; thank you. Our highlights of the trip were: 1) Time with our guide 2) Beautiful scenery: rice fields, orchards, temples, lotus flowers and water lilies, the river from all angles 3) Seeing all the different neighborhoods and saying “hello” to people 4) the DELICIOUS food (we loved making our own Banh Xeo at the Coco Riverside Lodge) 5) The most beautiful lodging EVER at both the Coco Riverside Lodge and Sam Mountain Lodge 6) Delicious western-style breakfasts at most of the hotels (we didn’t love the breakfast at the Sao Mai Hotel). Incredibly interesting and diverse trip!

Beautiful trip. Our guide Phuc was very knowledgeable, calm and kind. Every section of the trip was distinct from the other sections. We cycled along little roads by canals seeing weddings, factories, shops, restaurants and homes. We stopped at interesting places along the way and met the locals at work. Tiny little back roads we couldn’t have found ourselves. 10 - 14 July 2024
