North West Vietnam Bike Loop- Sapa- Mu Cang Chai- Moc Chau

The train arrives in Lao Cai in the early morning. Meet your drivers and begin the scenic uphill transfer along winding mountain roads to Sapa. Enjoy breathtaking views of lush rice terraces and deep valleys along the way.

Upon arrival in Sapa, have breakfast at the hotel and leave your luggage at the reception. Then set off to explore the stunning landscapes of mountains, rice paddies, and valleys as you cycle through the villages of Lao Chai, Ta Van, and Su Pan. Along the route, you'll discover the unique cultures of the Black Hmong, Red Dzay, and Tay ethnic groups.

Stop for a delicious local lunch. In the afternoon, continue your journey into the heart of Red Dao territory, visiting traditional villages and learning about their daily life. The day ride concludes in Ban Ho village, from where you’ll return to Sapa by vehicle.

After breakfast, we leave Sapa town by vehicle and begin our cycling adventure on smooth, undulating roads that wind through lush hill farms. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking mountain views and conquer a few small hills as we pass the scenic Silver Waterfalls and arrive at the famed Sapa Heaven Gate. From here, take in the spectacular natural beauty of Fansipan Peak and the dramatic mountain passes of the Hoang Lien Son Range, the highest in Northern Vietnam.

We then enjoy a thrilling descent along winding roads to Tram Ton Pass, continuing onward to Binh Lu. From here, we go off-road, cycling along small gravel paths through charming tribal hamlets inhabited by the Thai ethnic group. This stretch offers magnificent views of jungle-clad hills and rolling terrain dotted with plum orchards and remote villages, with lunch en route.

After about 13 km of rugged trails, we rejoin National Road 32, cycling through a landscape of green farmland and mountain scenery with mostly downhill gradients toward Than Uyen. We continue on smaller backroads, skirting the mountain range, and delve deeper into the lives of the Thai and Mong tribes, riding past lush rice terraces and traditional homes. We conclude today’s ride at a vibrant rural market before transferring to Than Uyen for the night.

After a hearty breakfast, we bid farewell to our hotel and hop on our bikes to begin an unforgettable day. The journey starts with a scenic ride across rice fields framed by towering mountains. We pass through a quiet town before turning onto small, hilly backroads that wind through hillside villages, offering stunning panoramic views along the way.

Our route then descends into lush valleys and transitions onto a dirt road leading to Ban Chat Reservoir. Here, we embark on a scenic 2-hour boat trip across the tranquil lake—a unique opportunity to witness the everyday life of tribal communities living along the lake’s banks.

Once the boat journey ends, we continue cycling through remote ethnic villages nestled on the mountain slopes and small fishing hamlets dotting the lakeshore. Upon reaching Highway QL279, we transfer by vehicle to Huynh Nhai for a well-deserved lunch. The morning ride covers approximately 29 kilometers.

In the afternoon, we pedal through Huynh Nhai town and its outskirts, gliding along mostly flat roads that cut through vibrant rice paddies. The terrain then shifts as we enter the jungle, climbing gently on winding roads with beautiful views of valleys and remote villages.

A coffee break awaits at a small local market before we enjoy an exhilarating 12-kilometer downhill ride along the river into the town of Tuan Giao—an exciting and scenic conclusion to an adventurous day.

Pha Din Pass is 30 km with 1.680mm above the sea level. It had become a legend of Dien Bien Phu Victory. It was the small trails and Viet Minh (the fathers and mothers of the Viet Cong) made up of the small road to supply the weapons and food. It was the most challenging way to use human power to pull artillery from Som La Dien Bien Phu. It was the only main and shortest route to support Viet Minh to defeat the French in Dien Bien Phu in 1954.

We cycle from the hotel, undulate 5 km through tiny towns along the river, and then challenge the Pha Din, which offers most of Vietnam's most incredible mountain landscapes. Venture through the spectacular karst mountains to the peak, view the scenery, and look over the most outstanding natural beauty. Take a ride descent in Binh Thuan. There are two roads between the middle part of the mountain top, and one is 13 km on a new road, while the old road is a well-maintained, smaller road with a similar distance, but without traffic at all. We cycle uphill for about 13 km and enjoy cycling downhill for 17 km.

You can choose which route to challenge, and we will be with you. The afternoon' ride is beautiful as it's more leisurely than in the morning adventures. The ride takes us through Black Thai hill tribes and green valleys, buffalos on farms and verdant fields of farm products. We will be back on the vehicle transfer to Son La city in the late afternoon.

After breakfast, enjoy a short transfer to a quiet rural village where the morning ride begins. The route follows National Road 106, winding through peaceful countryside dotted with small towns, lush terraced rice fields, mountain backdrops, and gentle rivers.

A key highlight of the morning is the climb over Cao Pha Pass, a small but rewarding challenge. After reaching the summit, enjoy a scenic descent through fertile farmland and valleys inhabited by H’mong and Thai ethnic communities. Pass through the untouched village of Muong Bu, where traditional ways of life remain intact.Continue to Muong La township and pause for a local lunch by the serene Da River.

In the afternoon, ride along the spectacular and little-traveled Road 109. This quiet mountain road takes you past stilt houses nestled at the foot of forested hills and across sweeping landscapes of terraced rice fields. The ride offers countless photo opportunities as you cruise alongside a tranquil reservoir.

Take a refreshing coffee break at the local Hot Springs, or relax your legs with a short soak before completing the final 13 km. This last stretch winds through rural farmland and gradually climbs through forested paths and grassy hills before descending into the magnificent rice terraces of Mu Cang Chai. Arrive at the Ecolodge in the late afternoon.

Nestled on a gentle hill overlooking a stunning valley, Mu Cang Chai Ecolodge offers sweeping views of magnificent terraced rice fields and nearby tribal villages. Rise early to enjoy the serene morning, admire the valley’s majestic beauty, and prepare to explore the scenic Khau Pha Pass and Tu Le—home to the Thai, Mong, and Dao communities.

After a hearty breakfast, begin your ride with a gently rolling 6 km stretch to National Road 32. Turn right and climb steadily for 4 km to the summit of Khau Pha Pass—the longest and most rugged pass on the route—rewarding you with breathtaking mountain vistas.

From here, enjoy an exhilarating 30 km descent—the longest of the trip—followed by a mostly downhill ride to Nghia Lo. Along the way, pause often to take in the lush scenery, especially in Tu Le Commune, known for its forested peaks and vibrant ethnic culture. Don’t miss its famous sticky rice.

Continue through the charming villages of Ma Tun and Nam Bung, then along the winding road of the spectacular Ban Hoi Valley, before arriving in Nghia Lo, where the day’s journey ends.

Today’s ride ventures deep into Vietnam’s rugged northwest, weaving through remote hamlets, jungle-cloaked hillsides, and quiet mountain towns along scenic Road 112. The highlight is the spectacular traverse of Ta Xua Nature Reserve, famed for its dramatic slopes and ever-shifting mountain weather.

The morning unfolds with a gentle 30 km roll past emerald rice paddies, peaceful farms, and winding rivers—an easy, picturesque warm-up before a relaxed local lunch.

In the afternoon, the route turns more challenging yet richly rewarding as you climb into Ta Xua’s misty, forested highlands. This pristine reserve shelters diverse flora and fauna in a cool, cloud-draped climate, where sunshine, fog, and drifting mist can сменe in quick succession.

From the pass, enjoy a sweeping descent along a sinuous road through lush valleys to Bac Yen, a tranquil hill town. The striking scenery, crisp air, and deep sense of remoteness make this one of the journey’s most memorable days.

Moc Chau Plateau in Son La Province is famed for its lush, rolling hills, emerald tea plantations, fragrant plum orchards, and a vibrant patchwork of farmland. While the Kinh make up about 35% of the population, the region is largely home to diverse ethnic communities—Thai, H’mong, Kho Mu, Dao, and Tay—creating a rich cultural mosaic.

Today’s ride starts straight from the hotel, leading out of town through quiet rural hamlets into open countryside. The route winds across fertile farmland, offering an intimate glimpse of daily life along the Tac River, where locals live simply and work their fields.

After lunch, we cross the Da River by ferry and continue toward Moc Chau Plateau. The afternoon unfolds with sweeping views of terraced tea hills rolling into the distance. A visit to a local tea village reveals the traditional processing methods, along with a chance to connect with H’mong culture. We finish the day in Moc Chau, settling in for a peaceful overnight amid the plateau’s serene natural beauty.

After an early breakfast, we set off from the hotel, cycling a few easy kilometers through town before turning onto a quiet country lane. The route winds through scenic countryside, passing rolling tea plantations, flower fields, and fruit orchards. Soon, we join the old National Road 6, which guides us for the rest of the day.

This picturesque stretch leads through peaceful rural towns, verdant valleys, and gently rolling hills. The Moc Chau Plateau, with its fertile soil and cool climate, is known for tea, plums, avocados, strawberries, and fresh produce, along with colorful flower gardens and charming ethnic villages.

We stop for lunch at a local eatery along the way. The afternoon ride is especially enjoyable, featuring winding “snake roads” and sweeping highland views. With light traffic and good road conditions, the ride is smooth and well-supported by our vehicle.

Our cycling journey ends at Chien Yen village, followed by a 4-hour transfer back to Hanoi, arriving in the late afternoon.

After breakfast, enjoy your remaining time exploring or shopping at your leisure before your scheduled transfer to Noi Bai International Airport for your departure flight. Tour ends.
