Biking Hue - Quang Tri Citadel - Dong Ha

We'll start early in the morning at 7:30 with a short vehicle drive out of Hue, and we cycle from Pha Tam Giang lagoon to Quang Tri Ancient Citadel. The bike routes are impressive, along the lagoon, pass sand dunes on the coats, thatched shelters, and fishing sampans on the west. Then we ride down to the coast, pedal along local beaches, seafood farms, and small colourful fishing boats. Stopping at the local beach, refresh with fresh fruits and cold drinks before we ride towards the ancient citadel of Quang Tri. We ride cross through the fields of vegetables, rice and nostalgic villages. Lunch en route. We arrive at the Quang Tri Citadel and spend a short time visiting its museum. The Second Battle of Quang Tri began on 28 June 1972. It lasted 81 days until 16 September 1972, when South Vietnam's Army of the Republic of Vietnam defeated the North Vietnamese People's Army of Vietnam at the ancient citadel of Quang Tri and recaptured most of Quang Tri Province. The battle destroyed almost the old fortress. Afterwards, we have a 30-minute transfer to Dong Ha City at Mine Action Visitor Center before checking in the hotel.

Cycling to Vinh Moc tunnels - Phong Nha

Commence today's tour early at 7:30 am with the authentic drive to historic Hien Luong Bridge- a bridge cross over Ben Hai River located in 17 parallel during Vietnam War. (Make a short visit to Gio Linh military cemetery on the way to Hien Luong bridge) The famous Ben Hai River was the boundary of North Vietnam and South Vietnam from 1954 until the war ended. Arrive at Hien Luong Bridge around 8:30 am, take a walk on the memorable bridge with a well-informed guide, and learn more about the Vietnam War in DMZ, Quang Tri. Stop and spend more time at Hien Luong Museum. Then we cycle to the famous Vinh Moc tunnels. The tunnels consist of kitchens, food storage, healthcare rooms, and bomb shelter. Around sixty families lived in the tunnels; as many as 17 children were born inside the tunnels. Ride along the tranquil Ben Hai River, stopping at Cua Tung beach, a little town with a lively fishing port and beautiful beach and stopping to admire the small town and nature landscapes from the long bridge. Then visit the fish market before we carry on the ride on the scenic coast to Vinh Moc tunnels. Enjoy a locally guided tour to explore these famous tunnels have many entrances inland and many gateways to the sea. The Vinh Moc living tunnels are often compared to Cu Chi fighting tunnels, which are smaller, humid and more complicated with more than 250 km. Afterwards, the ride will continue 15 km on rural roads along small villages, passing thatched houses and fruit orchards as we reach Highway 1A. Relax on vehicle transfer 3.5 hours to Phong Nha with lunch en route.

Paradise & Dark Caves Explorer

The Phong Nha National Park is located in the central west of Ho Chi Minh trails close to Laos, and it is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Phong Nha caves were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. Son Doong cave is one of the world's largest natural caves. Located near Laos–Vietnam border, Son Doong has an internal, fast-flowing underground river and the most significant cross-section of any cave worldwide.  However, Paradise Cave is one of the most beautiful Caves in Phong Nha for travellers to explore with a day trip. It's an incredible home to the 360-million-years-old rock formations, the 31km long, the longest and the most beautiful in Asia, the central province of Quang Binh. The countryside and surroundings in Phong Nha are fantastic. The small town and it's surroundings have some colonist buildings ring by limestone mountain ranges, lush foothill farms, rice paddies, rivers, and tiny villages make it more rustic and spectacular. We have a full-day guided tour to explore the most beautiful Caves of Paradise, Dark with zipline adventures to mud bathing, swimming. After breakfast, we travel by bus on Ho Chi Minh road to Paradise Cave, spend 3 hours exploring this cave, and travel by bus to a restaurant for lunch. After we take zip line cable to Dark Cave, then take mud bathing and enjoy swimming. Finally, we return to Phong Nha town on Ho Chi Minh road, through mountain ranges, valleys, and tropical rainforests. Dine with the team and stay one more night in the city.

We ensure that all riders are satisfied with how Vietnam Backroads organizes cycling trips without worry.

Every morning, you will transfer out of the bustling towns and ride into rustic villages and country farms and retransfer in the late afternoon through heavy traffic into the city.

Central Coast and in Central Provinces

Our hand-picked up routes with the unique tailor-make programme will please your ride. Our bicycle tours are on small roads and rural paths from Ha Noi and begin the ride in Dong Hoi down the coast to Ho Chi Minh. Another way around from Saigon to Ha Noi, and start the ride in Dalat, then down to shore, from the southern coast to the central provinces: Phan Thiet to Phan Rang, Nha Trang, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, Quang Ngai, Hoi An, Hue and Dong Ha, Dong Hoi (DMZ) and Phong Nha where the ride ends or begins depending on the trip's destinations. Throughout the ride, enjoy descending the mountain from Dalat to Nha Trang, enjoy breathtaking views of Khanh Le/ Hon Giao Passes, ride along the stunning coastal routes in Quy Nhon, immerse yourself in seaside villages along the dirt tracks, meet the farmers in the vast agricultural farmlands in Hoi An before looking over the spectacular views of Hai Van Mountain Pass, vast agricultural farmlands in Hoi An, and networks of canals in rivers, and colourful lanterns lining the tiny streets in Hoi An, discover the Hue Purple City, and Quang Tri ancient town all the ways to Phong Nha through DMZ.

Stunning coast & Beaches & Seaside villages

Many small country roads are smooth and small, with less traffic, long sandy local beaches, peninsula, lagoon, mountains along the coast, and small towns; however, some roads are rolling mountains, hills, and stunning bays that the minor roads are the best choice.

Mountains, Hills and Tropical forests and Jungles

Depend on the trips you booked and where it travels through mountain climbs throughout the route, rainforest, and jungles far from the coast where the rural infrastructures are underdeveloped, or paths through deeply remote hamlets and closed to traffic. In this case, your guide will avoid riding on many undeveloped rural villages, and dirt tracks are unsafe, bumpy and very rocky, slippery and landslide when it rains, and lead you depending on the minor roads.

We ride mostly on small paths along fishing villages, seafood farms, and lush flat rural farmlands, small villages for support vehicles to go along with the riders. But the support vehicle will be on minor roads running parallel and driving along as close to riders as possible. The networks of small paths crisscross rural, and this will be easy for riders to meet the support vehicles at corners, forks on country roads after approximately 15 km, 20 km, or 25 to 30 km on a daily bike ride.

The rainy season in Central Vietnam is usually around September until early last January, which coincides with the best humidity and temperature of the entire year, with the high levels of rainfall from September to November. Sometimes, typhoons from the sea affect Hoi An, and flooding might occur in Hoi An's old town from October to December. October until February is the peak season for tourism in the country. The dry season between January & August with temperatures ranging in the mid 30°C, and humidity. In general, the weather in central is divided into two seasons, and the rainy season and the dry season do not coincide with the two climatic regions of North and South. It's hot and humid from May to August, so it's the best time to do bicycle tours from September to April.
