Lunch en route, and there is a transfer after lunch to avoid heat. The after the ride will continue around 3:00 pm. Explore the Endless Field, visit herbal medical laboratory

After your breakfast at homestay, get ready for activities such as; boat ride through the forest, do fishing, traps fish by the nest, stop at the lepironia field, visit medical plant garden, visit a place where local produces herbal medicinal oils. We enjoy a boat ride through the forest; see peaceful scenery and wildlife of many kinds of plants; lotus plants, water lily, wild clambering plants, oily trees, eucalyptus, lepironi... Many animals and species of water creature; Swamphens, cormorant, egret, kingfisher, Raven, honey bee, bats perch, snakehead fish, cash fish, and so on, etc.
Lepironia articulata is known as grey sedge. It often grows well in acid sulfate soils. This plant is about 1 to 2 meters in height. These local couples are very famous and have used for thousand years in Vietnam as they have been used sleeping mates and handbags until now but kid’s school bags in the old days.
Cajuput is the same mangrove family and cannot survive and grow well in wet, muddy soils. These trees play an essential role in Millions of typical houses in Mekong Delta since locals discovered them. It is because Mekong Delta is a wetland, fertile soils and muddy. Foundations of the house are needed to be reliable and robust, so cajuput is one of the cheap materials for locals to choose. These trees are strong forever and keep the home foundation more stable if kept in wet soil.
We’ll stop at lepironia field on the boat trip and visit a place where local produce herbal medicinal oils. We’ll spend time visiting farmland where many kinds of oily trees are grown here. Enjoy lotus tea and tapioca sourced with coconut juice. Walk to the field where medicinal oil plants are grown. Then we return to our boat to another place for kayaking. The water here is so clear that you could water plants at the bottom. Then we return to the forest center by boat and visit the Herbal medicinal oil research and development laboratory before checking out. Most local- Vietnamese live in rural areas using herbal medicinal oils when they got sick at their home. To get oil tree's leaves to team body when local get the fever. Herbal therapeutic oil is the best thing ways to apply on skins when spraining on legs or arms. Do check out, return to our vehicle by boat for another 25km riding through lush green farmland. Road Condition

Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta, Vietnam, has rural path network systems, and they had very well-developed by governments. All country back roads are asphalt, concrete paths connecting villages to villages as it's a vast network. The rest are dirt tracks, so do not worry about exploring the Mekong Delta by bicycle, even you are a beginner. Depending on the regions, lowlands, or jungles, and rural villages of each province, our hand-picked routes are the best for your biking trips

Flexible route - The most important key is to your trip

You do not have to ride the exact kilometer distance as it's showing on the daily biking of each itinerary. It will be flexible as you want. Even you could choose the longest distance that more than 80km per day if a whole day ride. You could spend more time cycling if you think the biking distance is too short! Or you can enjoy short routes and spend more time taking photos, stopping at villages/ small markets, or the home of locals to find something interesting.

Throughout the Mekong Delta and its rivers with thousand branches! You will ride on various roads; flat trails, paths, rural roads, and country back roads where they are too small for vehicles. However, the Mekong Delta River network has natural creeks and canals that small ferry boats are such essential ways of travelling in the countryside, and riders have no choice!

Cycling routes

We tailor-make unique bike trips depend on the specific route and terrain of your tour. Vietnam Backroads is the first cycle tour operator to explore and build up many adventure trips to Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Rach Gia, Vi Thanh, Cao Lanh, and Sadec and removed villages. Our top cycle tour operator and the pathfinder are Mr Van, nicknamed "Van the man" Each cycling route has to be meticulously well-scouted, investigated, scouted out, and mapped out beforehand by Mr. Van the man. Our guides are licensed, well trained in bike maintenance and navigation and know all routes as they are on their hands. All bike guides can tailor a custom route suitable to your wish and levels of cycling skills.

How were the backup vehicles support cyclists on the trip?

Most routes are small, narrow, just wide enough for two bicycles OR mopeds. There are vehicles to support riders on the entire trip (van/minibus to take up all cyclists and truck to carry all bikes and spare bikes), but they are too big to drive on, follow riders along through the countryside. Do remember! All support vehicles are permanently closed and not far from the group. Where are the support vehicles during the trip? Depends on routes, vehicles sometimes move along the high roads, second highways, or country roads as close to riders as possible. If one of the riders wants to relax on A/C vehicle, the tour leaders will find the shortest route that leads he/she to the support vehicles that are always on standby. That is very easy and also the way Vietnam Backroads organized.

Weather

The temperatures in the Mekong delta are all year round, about 25-28°C with only slight variations. The climate of the Mekong River Basin ranges from temperate to tropical. In the Upper Mekong Basin, some of the taller peaks of the Tibetan Plateau are glaciated. Much of this part of the Basin is snow-covered in winter. Melting snow from the Tibetan Plateau feeds the Mekong River’s dry-season flow, especially in the middle reaches. In the relatively lower elevations of the Yunnan province of China, the climate of the Mekong River Basin changes, and the temperature gradually increases.

  • The dry season is from October to the last of April. Farmers make three rice crops per year, so travelers meet them at their homes and see them working on farmlands. Significantly, the dry season is closed to the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, and it makes locals doing more and trying to work hard to get more money. The weather is nice, low temperature and more relaxed than other seasons.

  • The wet season is called the flooded season or the monsoon season. It is the time of year when most of a region's average annual rainfall occurs. Sea level is higher than usual by heavy rains from upstream countries; Tibetan- China, Laos , Thailand, and Cambodia. Provinces in southwest of Mekong Delta have yearly flooded but not so long. It's from last of August to early of Nov. That is the best way to see Mekong Delta on back roads by bicycle.

In general, the preferred travel time is the dry season. But even during the rainy season from May to October is also a perfect time to travel by bicycle of very short rains. The rain usually comes in short, heavy showers, mainly in the afternoon, and only lasts for an hour. Only a few days a year, the temperature is below 20°C. It usually takes around one hour, then gone, and sunshine turns back to normal.
